The 19 TV monitors are arranged in relation to the planimetry of the people who died prior to the Venezuelan coup of April 11, 2002, building a route that emulates the geographic space where the bloody shooting happened. In this sense, the TV screens represent each one of the victims killed during that day, amplifying a precise and clear message, claiming for Justice. The use of the Atari in this work is fundamental. It belonged to Jesus Mohamad Merhi, cousin of the artist, who was killed during the shooting that tragic day. Television has been a key element in the success of the so called "revolution". Lets remember that Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, managed to get himself known as a result of a televised appearance he made in February 4, 1992. That same day, and as a result of the failed coup led by Chávez, 19 people died, just like April 11, 2002. Today, Mr. Chávez has his own TV program called "Aló Presidente". Justicia exposes a common-universal-yearning to any people, from any time and space. With Justicia the artist reflects and demands a human right , beyond any political or ideological affiliation, since we all deserve justice. |
