10 Plexiglas Boxes with poetry
Dimensions Variable
|
Pbox is an installation made with 10 transparent Plexiglas boxes containing very small printed poems, written by the artist, and shown through a built-in magnifying glass placed on the top of each box. All the boxes are fixed in a wall of the gallery/museum space. Pbox employs a technique to read and experience poetry which has been present in previous works of Merhi, such as Micrologos (2001) and Telepoesis (2002). All the ‘short’ poems, written using lower case letters in English, Spanish, and Italian, reveal a deep existential preoccupation linked to the poet’s occupation, e.g.: “to live / is to conspire against death / knowing that death / is our best ally”. |
